Obituary

Lorraine M. Anderson, 81, of Owatonna, died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at her home. Lorraine was born March 17, 1927 in Owatonna, Minnesota the daughter of Frank and Minnie (Ribbe) Minges. Lorraine was baptized on May 1, 1927 at St John Lutheran Church and confirmed her faith on March 17, 1940. She attended school in Owatonna graduating from High School in 1944. She then attended Austin Teacher Training where she graduated in 1945 and then Mankato State College where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education in June 1962 and her Masters Degree in June of 1969. In 1972 she earned her principalship license from Mankato State. She was united in marriage to Rayfield Anderson on June 8, 1948. Lorraine taught for 16 years in the Steele County rural schools of Meriden, Saco and Merton Township. In 1962 she began teaching as a first grade teacher in Medford. In 1974 Lorraine was chosen "Outstanding Elementary Teacher of Minnesota. In 1975 she became the elementary principal in Medford and served as principal until 1987 when she retired. After retirement, Lorraine was active in the Owatonna Area Retired Educators Associations, Retired Educators Association of MN, Southeastern Retired Educators Association of MN and Retired Rural Teachers of Steele County. Lorraine knew her bible well and was a lot about giving to her family, her friends and her neighbors. She taught Sunday school at St. John for 15 years and also taught bible study. Spending the holidays with her family was important to Lorraine especially Christmas. After retirement, she continued to keep the books and was active in the family farming business She also liked to read books, especially to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lorraine was the type of person that was always learning and teaching. She is survived by her husband Rayfield Anderson of Owatonna; two sons, Rodney (and Gail) Anderson of Owatonna; Randall Anderson of Owatonna; a daughter, Renee (and Richard) Pavek of Rochester; a brother, Wayne (and Thelma) Minges of Owatonna; six grandchildren, Jesse (and Sheri) Anderson, Benjamin (and Andrea) Anderson, Jered (and Sara) Anderson, Christina (and Evan) Schwab, Jennalee (and Ryan) Oefstedahl and Jacob Anderson. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Taylor, Brice and Aiden Anderson. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents and many uncles and aunts. Memorials are preferred to the St. John Lutheran Foundation-Scholarships and the Mayo Clinic-Department of Development. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral service will be held December 31, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
