Lorraine Arlenne Kniefel, 93, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna.
She was born in Wadena, MN to her parents, Jerry and Pearl (Fischer) Skalisky. She was a graduate of Wadena High School and the State Normal School for Teachers at Staples, MN. Lorraine taught several years in rural schools in both Wadena and Steele Counties.
On November 3, 1945, Lorraine married Herbert Kniefel. They farmed and raised three children while living in Deerfield Township. Herb and Lorraine moved to Owatonna upon Herb's retirement in 1976.
After her children were grown, Lorraine was employed for several years at Schultz's Family Store as well as several years for the Owatonna school food service program. Lorraine spent many hours volunteering for the Hospice program, Big Brother/Big Sister program and as a docent at the Heritage Halls Museum in Owatonna.
Lorraine was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Steele County Historical Society, Owatonna Garden Club, Fairy Lamp Club, and was the founder of the Pressing Iron and Trivet Collectors of America. Lorraine was an avid fan of all the Minnesota professional sports teams. She enjoyed working in her large and bountiful flower garden each year. She also created many beautiful pieces of hardanger needlework.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, her parents, Jerry and Pearl Skalisky, two sisters, and a brother.
Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Lind of Lilydale, MN, son James (Lanette) Kniefel of Medford, MN, and son John (Patricia) of Owatonna, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a sister Viola Hanson, Fergus Falls, MN and a brother Dale (Wanda) Skalisky, Wenatchee, WA.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Saturday, August 11th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Pastor Jacie Richmond officiating. Interment will be at a later date in St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
