Lorraine Irene "Toots" Meyer, 90, of Kenyon, died Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Kenyon Sunset Home.
She was born November 29, 1928 in Goodhue County, Minnesota the daughter of Carl and Clara (Christensen) Carlsen. She grew up in the Kenyon area and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1946. After high school, she lived and worked for a short time in the Twin Cities before marrying Luverne "Lefty" Meyer at The Little Brown Church in Iowa on February 28, 1949. The couple lived in Austin before moving to Kenyon where they raised their family.
Lorraine cooked at the Kenyon school with her mother, Clara and sister, Dora, catered numerous weddings in the area churches, enjoyed decorative painting, decorating cakes, reading and playing cards at the Legion and Eagle's Club in Faribault and traveling to Florida and Texas and made the best poppy seed cake and sugar cookies. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenyon.
She is survived by her children, Robyn (and Kim) Olson of Andover and Terry (and Sue) Meyer of Kenyon; daughters-in-law, Cindy Meyer of Kenyon and Jane Starch; grandchildren, Melissa (and Adam) Greenslade, Aaron (and Angela) Meyer, Ben Meyer, John Meyer, Shawn (and Paula) Meyer, Adam (and Kristina) Olson, Andrew (and Jessica) Olson, Dorothy (and Marcus) Allen and Anna Starch and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Clara; husband, Luverne; sons, David and Tim; siblings, Bob, Ernie, Harry, Maynard, Dora Wallaker and Elaine Slukich and grandson, Jason Meyer.
Visitation will be at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon on Saturday, April 6th from 12-1pm. A Memorial Service will be held April 6, 2019 at 1pm at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon with Pastor Julie Rogness officiating. Interment will be Gol Lutheran Cemetery in Kenyon.
Memorials are preferred to First Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Kenyon Sunset Home.
