Louis O. Huset, 88, of Owatonna, died Saturday, January 1, 2011 at the Owatonna Hospital. . He was born December 29, 1922 in Camp Lewis, Washington, the son of Elmer and Mabel (Rood) Huset. Louie grew up in various locations, including Hawaii, California, New York and Minnesota, because his father was an Army chaplain. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis in 1941. After enlisting in the United States Navy, he attended the University of Minnesota through the V-12 program, earning a Civil Engineering degree and serving in the Navy in El Centro, California. Upon his return to Minnesota, Louie married the love of his life, Doris Burke of Minneapolis, on October 19, 1946. The couple moved to Owatonna where he began a career as a Civil Engineer for the City of Owatonna. In 1952 Louie was called to active duty and he, his wife and daughter moved to Puerto Rico where he was stationed during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he returned to Owatonna and his job with the city, eventually serving as the Associate City Engineer until retiring in 1984. Louie enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, traveling, relaxing at the cabin, fishing and hunting, attending auctions and bowling. A skilled craftsman, his hobbies included building and refinishing furniture, wood carving and painting. Louie never missed a sporting event or performance by his granddaughters. He was a member of First Baptist Church, life member of the VFW, American Legion, Eagles, and served with the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. He is survived by his daughter Patty Huset of Faribault, son Larry (Patsy) Huset of Costa Mesa, CA, grandchildren Elizabeth, Samantha, and Anna Dwinnell, and Caryn Huset. He is also survived by his sister Helen (Burt) Swanson of Mendota Heights and sister in law Audrey Huset of Roseville, and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, brother Elmer 'Bud' Huset, and sister Kathryn Lundy. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at First Baptist Church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Reverend Cindy Halvorson officiating. Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis with full honors. Memorials are preferred to the First Baptist Church or donor''s choice.
