Obituary

Louise Virginia Nielsen, 95, of Kenyon, Minnesota, passed away on January 8, 2011. She is survived by her devoted husband, Harold, daughter Rosalind Bonsett (Richard) of Beverly Hills, FL., son Scott Nielsen (Janet) of Bordentown, NJ, son Stephen Nielsen of Kenyon, MN, six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. They mourn the loss not only of a member of their family, but also one who impacted the global family. Louise was born on September 16, 1915 in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Eleanor and Byron Scott. She attended school at White Bear Lake High School, from which she graduated in 1933 with skills in typing and shorthand. Louise began a successful working career in her father's insurance office, followed by service to Farwell, Ozmun Kirk, 3M and eventually to Foldcraft Co. She married Harold Nielsen on October 27, 1950. They moved to Mendota, MN in 1955 where Louise helped Harold further grow his business by handling accounting and nearly all office needs. That growth prompted them to move with Foldcraft Co. to Kenyon in 1970. Following her retirement from active work, Louise tackled her passionate causes, helping those less fortunate. She was the initiating force behind creation in 1978 of Winds of Peace Foundation, serving the marginalized people of Nicaragua. In 1987 she and Harold founded Miracle Ranch Children's Home in Mexico as a safe haven for orphaned boys. She co-founded in 1987 The Gallery framed print store, whose sales helped to establish and fund Third World Friends Thrift Store of Kenyon, in turn providing clothing and monetary support for people in impoverished countries. She was a consistent supporter of the USA Humane Society, Minnesota Humane Society, CARE and Catholic Relief Services. Louise desired justice for those too small to secure it for themselves. Louise loved life and living things. She taught Sunday school for twenty years. She cared deeply about not only other people's needs, but also the welfare of animals, plants and the environment. She particularly loved the lake home in Lindstrom, MN where she could nurture her love of nature surrounded by forest, birds, flowers and water. She is profoundly missed, already, by her family and friends; our world is diminished by her death, but so deeply enriched by her life. Memorial Services will be Monday January 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church Kenyon with Reverend Luther Mathsen and Reverend Steve Swanson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in the spring in Acacia Park Cemetery in Mendota Heights. Visitation: 01/17/2011 10:00 01/17/2011 11:00 Service: 01/17/2011 11:00
