Obituary

Lowell H. Nelson, 91, of Owatonna, died Monday, September 7, 2009 at Cedarview Care Center. He was born July 17, 1918 in Meriden the son of Henry and Mollie (Sexter) Nelson. Lowell married Harriet Pichner Nov. 12, 1941 at St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna. Following their marriage the couple farmed together for many years. Along with farming, Lowell also sold John Deere Equipment for Christensen Implement and Nelson Equipment. He retired from Nelson Equipment in 1983. In retirement Lowell worked part time for Wencl Plumbing. Lowell and Harriet moved from their farm to Owatonna in 2001. He was a life member of St. John Lutheran Church. Lowell was also a member of the Exchange Club of Steele County and the Elk's Club. Lowell enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, old time music, country music and watching the Minnesota Twins. He also enjoyed reading non-fiction and biographies. Lowell is survived by his wife, Harriet Nelson of Owatonna; son, Gary (and Marcia) Nelson of Owatonna; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Bowman of Owatonna, Lois Oeltjenbruns of Owatonna, Lorraine Aldahl of Madison, WI and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Dale and sisters, Shirley and Leona. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm and at St. John Lutheran Church on Thursday from 1pm to 2pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 2:00pm at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
