L.R. 'Dusty' Rhoades, 82, of Owatonna, died Monday, May 24, 2010 at Homestead Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 24, 1928 in Carnforth, Iowa the son of Leo and Annis (Egdahl) Rhoades. Married Ruth Johnson June 22, 1947 at Pontoppidan Lutheran. Dusty and Ruth then lived in Owatonna, where Dusty worked for the Steele County Breeders, which later consolidated with the Midwest Breeders. The couple lived in Clinton Falls Township, where Dusty owned and operated Dusty's Repair for over thirty years, also later known as Dusty''s coffee shop. Dusty and Ruth moved back into Owatonna in 1998. He served on the Clinton Falls Town Board, and was a Steele County Commissioner from 1972-1992. He was a member of St. John Lutheran were he was involved with church council, a church usher, treasurer and a trustee. Dusty was also involved with 4-H and Boy Scouts. He is survived by his wife Ruth Rhoades of Owatonna, children Dian King of Owatonna, Peggy Karsten of Owatonna, Karen (Archie) Kasparek of Faribault, Rhonda (Bill Conlin) Rhoades of St. Paul, Kathy (Richard) Anderson of Morristown, Nancy (Jim) Goshey of Crosby, and Sara (Keith Hopke) Wagner of Faribault, Alan (Linda) Rhoades of Owatonna, Larry (Mary) Rhoades of Owatonna, David (Leslie) Rhoades of Omaha, Darin (Susan) Rhoades of Ellendale. Twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter also survive him His parents, two brothers, five sisters, one grandchild, and two great grandchildren preceded him in death. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 PM and at St. John Lutheran Church on Thursday one hour prior to the service. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 AM at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church or Homestead Hospice House Patient Care.
