Luella Marie Peterson, 97, of Owatonna, died Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Koda Living Community in Owatonna. She was born December 31, 1916 in Havana Township, Steele County, Minnesota, the daughter of Hans and Clara (Schiffman) Jensen. After attending school, Luella moved to Minneapolis and worked at the Athletic Club where she met Marvin Peterson. They were married September 22, 1962 in Los Angeles, California and made their home in Buena Park, California. Luella worked in retail sales at the May Company until her retirement. Marvin died in 1975. She returned to Owatonna five years later to be near her family. She was a resident at Park Place, Cedarview Care Center, and most recently, Koda Living Community. Luella enjoyed reading, gardening, and had a great love for animals. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna. Everyone who knew Lue will always remember her wonderful sense of humor. She is survived by her stepchildren, Jerry (and Kathy) Peterson of Riverside, CA, Richard (and Talma) Peterson of El Cajon, CA, and Barbara (and Ray) Elkin of Carlsbad, CA; step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren in Arizona, Minnesota and California, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; brother, Paul Jensen; and sisters, Iola Gontarek, Ida Mae Root, and Eleanor Joachim. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Koda Living Community, 2255 NW 30th Street, Owatonna. A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Steele County Humane Society, Owatonna Public Library Foundation or American Cancer Society. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
