Mr. Schlobohm was born March 9, 1927 in Medford Township, Steele County to Edward and Ella (Abbe) Schlobohm. He went to country school and high school in Medford, helped on the family farm, and enlisted in the US Navy in 1945. He served on the destroyer ships; the USS Floyd B. Parks and the USS Robert Oreleck in the South Pacific, and was honorably discharged in 1947. He was a World War II veteran. In 1952, he married Joan A. Cole in Kenyon, Minnesota. In 1952, Luverne was employed at Steele-Waseca Coop Electric for 40 years, first as a lineman, then promoted to crew chief and ended his career as transformer meter supervisor, retiring in 1992. Vern enjoyed working the family farm throughout his life, going as far as taking vacation time to help with the harvest. He also enjoyed collecting and working on old tractors and taking them to the Steele County Fair. He was particularly proud to take an Honor Flight trip to Washington DC in 2008. He had the opportunity of visiting the WW II memorial, and was greeted by former Senator Bob Dole. It was a highlight that he talked of for many years.
