Luverne Roy Elsner, 80, of Owatonna, died Friday, December 26, 2008 at Homestead Hospice House. He was born October 2, 1928 in Meriden Township the son of Roy and Alice (Schmidt) Elsner. He attended rural school in Meriden Township. On October 10, 1949 Luverne married Elaine Spiekerman at St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna. Luverne farmed his whole life. While farming he also worked for Gandy Company and was the plant foreman at OMC. He also worked with his son at Lakeview Service, and did custom snow blowing and backhoe work. Luverne was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He had served on the church council and as an usher. Luverne enjoyed hunting, ice fishing and snowmobiling. He spent many hours designing, fabricating and welding things in his shop. He will be remembered for his factual story telling abilities. He is survived by daughter, Roxanne (and Mark) Thompson of Kansas City, MO; son, Allan (and Cathy Wavrin) Elsner of Owatonna; grandchildren, Shellie (and Tim) Cover, Leif Handland, Virginia Elsner, Nicholas Elsner; great granddaughter, Jessica Cover; brother, Elmer (and Arlene) Elsner of Owatonna and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, son, and 2 brothers. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday from 4-7pm and at St. John Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 9-10am. Funeral services will be held December 30, 2008 at 10:00am at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church, Homestead Hospice House or to the donor''s choice.
