Luverne W. Pobanz, 92, of Owatonna, died Monday, March 16, 2009 at Traditions of Owatonna. He was born April 15, 1916 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Robert and Bertha (Klemmer) Pobanz. He attended school in the Owatonna area, and then worked for his uncle at Klemmer Quarry. Married Dorothy Pachl September 5, 1942 at First Lutheran in Louisville, KY, he then served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, the couple then moved back to Owatonna, where Luverne returned to work at the quarry. He later started working for Steele County as a truck driver and mechanic, where he later retired. Dorothy died September 7, 2008. Luverne was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, and a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed buying cars and keeping them sparkling clean, and he also enjoyed his grandsons. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth (Russell Karlen) Lewis of Owatonna, two grandsons, four great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. Luverne was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, three sisters and four brothers. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday March 18, 2009 from 5-7 PM and at St. John Lutheran Church on Thursday from 9:30 - 10:30 AM. Funeral service will be held Thursday March 19, 2009 at 10:30 AM at St. John Lutheran Church with Reverend Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
