Lydia Alice Schenald, 99, of Kenyon, died Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Faribault Commons. She was born September 9, 1910 in Cherry Grove Township, Minnesota the daughter of Rasmus and Gesine (Larson) Schenald. She was raised and attended school in West Concord graduating from West Concord High School. She then attended nursing training from 1931 until 1933 in Red Wing becoming a registered nurse. She continued living in Red Wing where she worked at St. John's Hospital. She then moved to Brainerd and later to Fergus Falls working as a nurse. She enlisted into the United States Army in 1943 and served overseas in England and later France. After her honorable discharge in 1946, she moved to California and lived there for a short time before moving to Rochester where she worked at Rochester Methodist Hospital. Lydia retired in 1971 and moved to Kenyon. She enjoyed traveling throughout Minnesota and the United States. She enjoyed watching and listening to the Minnesota Twins, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She is survived by three nephews, Arvel Vold of Faribault; Hilton (and Audrey) Vold of Kenyon; Leroy (and Linda) Vold of Faribault; a niece, Gladys (and George) Gale of Faribault; and many great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Borghild Vold, Alma Schenald, Mable Mellon, Emma Schenald and a brother, Gilman Schenald. Visitation will be at Hegre Lutheran Church on Thursday, January 28, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Hegre Lutheran with Pastor Richard Hegal officiating. Interment will be in the Hegre Lutheran in rural Kenyon. Military honors will be provided by the Kenyon Veterans Color Guard.
