Lytana Jean Derscheid, 89, of Kenyon, died on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Milestone Assisted Living in Faribault. She was born October 21, 1936, in Stewartville, the daughter of Glen and Berkley (Myhre) Markham. Lytana grew up in Stewartville until moving to Cherry Grove, and finally to Kenyon, where she graduated from Kenyon High School in 1956. She attended Anchor School of Nursing and received her nursing diploma. On December 23, 1958, she married her high school sweetheart, George Derscheid, in Kenyon. The couple settled on a family farm, where they raised crops and animals.
While Lytana was working as a nurse at the Kenyon Sunset Home, she also was a devoted farm wife, helping with the chores, tending to her expansive garden full of vegetables, fruits, and some flowers. She spent many hours in the kitchen canning the vegetables and making pickles. When George was still involved with the Farm Bureau, they attended a few trips and conventions together, including Hawaii, Mexico City, Florida, and Houston, Texas. Due to the Derscheid's being dairy farmers, they were able to schedule only one vacation a year for a week, and it was always a fishing trip, somewhere in Northern Minnesota. In 2008, Lytana retired from the Kenyon Sunset Home where she spent most of her career caring for others.
When she wasn't working, Lytana was serving on the Women's Ladies Aid at Moland Lutheran Church, reading, and watching Vikings' football games. Before George's passing in 2015, they were at almost every event for their grandsons and were the boys' biggest and loudest cheerleaders.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia (and Hugh) Brewer of Tea, SD, Keith (and Marliss) of Kenyon, and Jeff of Kenyon; grandsons, Brent Derscheid, Jason Derscheid, Kyle (and Stacy Hu) Brewer, and Joel (and Lindsay) Brewer; great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Parker, Charlee, and Eve; her siblings, Darrell Markham, Kurt (and Carolyn) Markham, and Brian Markham (and Shelli Purdi); and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; sister, Sheila (and Reuben) Murray; and sister-in-law, Petra Markham.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Michaelson Funeral Home in Kenyon. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Moland Lutheran Church with a visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will be at Moland Cemetery.
