Obituary

Morris Cordet Overby, 88, of Kenyon, died Thursday July 10, 2008 at the Kenyon Sunset Home. Cordet was born August 8, 1919 in Kenyon Township, the son of Karl and Olena (Remold) Overby. He was baptized and confirmed at Gol Lutheran Church and was an active member all of his life. He attended rural grade school and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1936. On June 30, 1942 Cordet married Jean Kispert at the Kenyon United Brethren Church. The couple operated their dairy and crop farm for 30 years together. Cordet also owned a bulk milk truck, was a technician for the American Breeders Service, worked at Dick''s Bike Shop in Faribault and was an outside salesman for the Kenyon Farmers Elevator. Following his retirement he was a part-time employee of Kenyon Township. In 1989 the couple moved into Kenyon. Cordet was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. In his younger years he played a lot of softball. Cordet also enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing and square dancing with his wife. He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Bernard 'Bernie' Overby of Kenyon, Kevin (and Karen) Overby of Northfield; daughter, Barbara (and Randal) Rust of Berryville, AR; grandchildren, Brook Rust, Melody Rust, Crystal Rust, Jeremy Rust, Josh Overby, Mikhail Overby, Jesse Overby; great grandchildren, Courtney, Autumn, Vivian, Callista, Pat; sister, Alice Carlsen of Kenyon; sister-in-law, Rosella Strandemo of Kenyon and nieces and nephews. Cordet was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stanley Overby; brother-in-law, Harry Carlsen; and nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 13 at Gol Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Gol Lutheran Cemetery.
