Mae V. Selvala, 78, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna. Mae was born on June 8, 1934 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Erick and Tena (Nelson) Engbloom. She grew up in Minneapolis. Mae graduated in 1952 from North High School. Following high school, she worked at Glenwood Bakery in Minneapolis from 1952 to 1965. On June 25, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert W. Selvala. Their family moved to Owatonna in 1967 where Mae stayed at home to raise her children. She later went to work for Truth Hardware in 1984 until her retirement in 1999. Mae was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Some of her activities were: the Hannah Altar Guild, Dorcus Circle, teaching bible school and Sunday school, and the Adult Forum bible study. Mae also was a member of a tea club, several Book Clubs, Sons of Norway, and the Steele County Historical Society. She loved to bake and was an avid reader. Mae was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, auntie, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew her. She is survived by her son, Jeff (and Fern) Selvala of Scottsdale, AZ; her daughter, Suzanne (and Tom) Steman of St. Cloud; four grandchildren, David and Michael Selvala, Neil and Anna Steman; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, brother, Al Engbloom, and sister, Ruth Tieva. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, September 21, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM . Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Julie Malone officiating. Interment will be at Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred to Homestead Hospice House.
