Marcy was born May 10, 1923 to Clarence and Alice (Bush) Johnson in Leon Township, the youngest of three girls. She was baptized and confirmed in Spring Garden Lutheran Church. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School and the Teacher Training Department, after which she taught rural school for five years. After raising her family, she attended classes at Mankato State University and graduated magna cum laude in 1972. She taught Special Education in Kenyon for 15 years and second grade for a half year.

She married Myron Kvittem on December 30, 1944 at Spring Garden Lutheran Church. She continued teaching until Myron was discharged from the Air Force a year later. They had four children, Owen, Ann, Naomi, and Eric, whom they raised in rural Kenyon. There, they farmed for nearly 50 years.

Marcy was a lifelong steward of her community. She established the Kenyon Area Food Shelf and the Welcome Wagon Service which she coordinated for 28 years and 11 years, respectively. She was involved in politics for a time, serving as local and county officer and as a delegate to conventions. She coordinated the Christmas Project with area churches for 30 years and did volunteer transportation. She enjoyed her involvement in the Holden Full O'Pep 4-H club, Chat 'N Chew Extension Club, and the Farm Bureau.

Marcy was dedicated to her local church, serving as superintendent of the Sunday School and a Bible Study leader, as well as serving on the synod and churchwide levels. She was passionate about making quilts for Lutheran World Relief and those in need. For her efforts, she was honored as Kenyon Citizen of the Year in 1996.

Marcy was an avid reader, enjoyed travels with her husband having visited all 50 states and some abroad, was a seamstress, did crossword puzzles every day, and loved her flowers, plants, and many cats.

Marcy was determined to reach her 100th birthday in May of this year, and she was grateful to spend three days celebrating with her friends and family. Even at 100, she and her family enjoyed her sharp mind and astounding memory.

She is survived by her children Ann (Bruce) Carlson of Colorado Springs, CO, Naomi (Dean) Murray of Zumbrota, MN, and Eric (Sharon) Kvittem of Minneapolis, MN; her five grandchildren Scott (Linda) Kvittem of Anchorage, AK, Dane (Jamie) Kvittem of Lincoln, NE, Lee (Sandy) Kvittem of San Angelo, TX, Steven (Nikki) Carlson of Tacoma, WA, and Grace (Luke) Granlund of Mclean, VA; her eight great-grandchildren Jake, Taylor (Connor), Max, Caleb, Landon, Autumn, Kennedy, and Henrik; and one great-great-grandchild Oliver Owen.

She was preceded in death by her husband Myron, her son Owen and his wife Debbie, her parents, her sisters Vivian Erickson and Clarice Dahl, and son-in-law Denneth Skogrand.

Her funeral service will be held at First Lutheran Church, Kenyon at 11am on Saturday, November 4, 2023. Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon. A private burial will be held at Spring Garden Lutheran Church.

Memorials will be given to First Lutheran Church and the Mayo Poverello Fund.
