Obituary

Marcia Lucille Braaten, 89, of Dennison, died Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Reflections Care Suites in Northfield. She was born June 10, 1927 in Warsaw Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota the daughter of Michael and Caroline (Eggum) Flom. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Kenyon High School, Class of 1945. On May 25, 1946, she married Herman Braaten. The couple made their home on the farm where they raised their family and where Marcia resided until recently. She was very involved in her church, serving on the Vang church council and WELCA. Herman and Marcia enjoyed traveling and visited many states and countries with a highlight being their trip to Norway. She also enjoyed jigsaw, crossword and word search puzzles. In later years, Marcia's favorite passion was quilting. She made nearly 1000 quilts donating them to many organizations around the area including Ronald McDonald House, Shriner's Hospital, Children's Hospital, shelter programs for adults and children, nursing homes and cancer treatment centers.. Spending time with her family and grandchildren was always a highlight. She is survived by her children, Caren (Bob) Sletten of Northfield, Randy (Candy) Braaten of Kenyon and Todd (Rick Anderson) Braaten of Sandy, UT; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and many close friends who she considered her special family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and son: Howard. Visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home in Kenyon on Monday, March 6th from 4-7pm and at Vang Lutheran Church one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be held Vang Lutheran Church rural Dennison, on Tuesday, March 7 at 11am with Rev. Paul Graham officiating. A private, family interment will be in the Vang Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Vang Lutheran Church and Cemetery.
