Margaret L. Engel, age 90, of Owatonna, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Lake City Care Center where she had resided since September 2013.
Margaret was born February 11, 1925 in Faribault, Minnesota the daughter of Frank and Ida (Joecks) Schuenke. She attended Faribault schools and graduated from Faribault High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to Clayton Engel of Kenyon, MN in 1943. While her husband was in the service she made her home in Owatonna and Kenyon. After Clayton came home from serving in the Army, they lived in Kenyon, Marshall and Owatonna. Margaret worked for a short time at J.C. Penney in Marshall, but felt her place was raising their four children while Clayton was in sales and on the road.
Margaret enjoyed sewing, antiques, reading, putting together puzzles and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She belonged to the Owatonna Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Owatonna. After Clayton's death in 2006, she lived in Rochester.
She is survived by her four children, Patricia (and Robert) Schultz of Alexandria; David (and Denise) Engel of Fishers, IN; Kathy Labat of Byron; and Karen (and Michael) Gorman of Rochester. She is also survived by six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond (and Donna) Schuenke of Faribault; Walter (and Betty) Schuenke of Cypress, TX; two sisters, Gertrude Morris of Anoka; Irene Mallon of New Mexico; her sister-in-law, Avonne (and Don Winklepleck of Fort Meyers, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clayton; two brothers, Edgar Schuenke and Gordon Schuenke and two sisters, Freda Hanzlicek and Marion Gaveske, and son in law Randy Labat.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, June 1, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 1, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend John Weisenburger officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Lake City Care Center Activity Fund to provide music for the residents in Margaret's name.
