Obituary

Margaret Harriet Houglum, 95, of Kenyon, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Three Links Care Center in Northfield.

She was born July 2, 1928, and grew up in Nerstrand, Minnesota. Margaret graduated from Faribault High School before attending St. Olaf College to pursue a degree in music playing the piano and organ. After her music study she met Roger Houglum and later they were married on July 17th, 1948 in Albert Lea. The couple lived in Albert Lea for a couple years before returning to the Kenyon area to farm together in 1954.

Margaret enjoyed baking her chocolate chip cookies and brownies for her family and friends. She loved to sit down and put together jig-saw puzzles and cross-stitch. She shared playing the organ and piano at Hauge Church for over 40 years.

She is survived by daughters, Nadine Bergevin of Springfield, MO, Marilyn (and Tom) Arndt of Meza, AZ, Nancy (and Todd) Dahling of Goodhue; grandchildren, Kim (Jeff) Williams, Jenny (Rodney) Sisney, Micki (Matt) Caetano, Emilie (Eric) Brehm, Todd (Fay) Crouse, Tracy (Jerry) Erickson, Joshua Dahling, and Charles Dahling; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild and two more coming in 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roger Houglum; son, Wayne Houglum, and son-in-law Craig Bergevin.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 11AM at Hauge Lutheran with a visitation starting one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Kenyon Cemetery.
