Margaret “Marge” Mary Ryg of West Concord, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Campus in Rochester after losing a battle to cancer. Marge was born on October 9, 1934, to Fred and Frances (Pester) Spinler and attended country school in Merton Township.

She was united in marriage to Nels “Johnny” Ryg on June 4, 1955, at St. Edwards Church in Richland Township, Faribault and shared 53 years together. They made their home in West Concord where they raised three daughters and a son.

Marge was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in West Concord, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in West Concord, and also a member of the VFW in Kenyon for many years.

Marge had a small daycare in her home for a number of years and also worked at Canning Co. in Kenyon, before purchasing Gladys Cafe in West Concord and later selling to Al and Rita Gilbert in 1977. She then started Ryg Upholstery shop at her home and finally retired at the age of 88. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, reading, crocheting, cooking and baking. She shared her baked goods with neighbors and family.

Marge is survived by daughters, Karen (Randy) Franko of Dodge Center, Vicki (James) Pirkl of Faribault, Barbara (Russ) Pettit of Farmington, and son, Wayne (Connie) Ryg of Owatonna; sister, Mildred Ehrich of Owatonna; brother, Tom (Ruth) Spinler or New Prague; as well as eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johnny; siblings, Lucille, Lawrence, Frannie, and Jake; brothers-in-law, Julius and Wayne; sister-in-law, Julie; and Johnny's parents and siblings.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Mayo Clinic Hospice, and Fairview Care Center.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 3, 2026, at Michaelson Funeral Home in West Concord with a visitation from 10 am until the time of service. Interment will be at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery with reception to follow at the West Concord American Legion.
