Marian K. Houglum, 92, of Medford, died Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Homestead Hospice.
She was born September 28, 1927 in Bejou, the daughter of George and Inga (Svenby) Hornstein. She attended country school. On April 17, 1947, she married Norman Houglum at Trinity Lutheran Church in Medford. They made their home in Medford and had three children. She worked for the Medford Schools for 17 years. She also cared for children in her home for many years. Marian loved to go camping, fishing and dancing. In her later years she traveled to Arizona where she wintered. Marian was a social member of the Eagles and V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was also an active and longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Medford.
She is survived by her children, Larry (and Pat ) Houglum of Mason City, IA, Diane Houglum of Owatonna Linda Peterson of Medford; grandchildren, Jill, Gina, Michelle (Matt) and Tiffany (Mike); great-grandchildren, Noah, Kortney, Emma, Maggie, Maveda, and Hudson; brother, Floyd (and Charlene) Hornstein of Owatonna; sisters, Dorothy (and Glen) Hale of Owatonna and sister, Alice Simon of Owatonna; sister-in-law, Carol Hornstein; many nieces and nephews; and also her cat, Tammy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Houglum; parents; brother, Harold Hornstein; sisters, Florence Reese and Gladys Thurnau; son-in-law, Greg Peterson; brothers-in-law, Roger Reese and Dick Thurnau and George Simon.
Funeral services will be held February 6, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Medford with Reverend Mark Biebighauser officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, Medford, Homestead Hospice House or donor's choice.
