Obituary

Marian Henrietta Elsie Pogalz, 94, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Koda Living Community. Marian was born June 2, 1920 in rural Dodge County, Minnesota and was born the youngest of 10 children to John and Mary (Wilke) Scherger. She attended Dodge Center High School graduating in 1938. She was united in marriage to Robert Pogalz on September 27, 1941 in Dodge Center. Robert was drafted in to the service and Marian returned to Dodge County. Marian joined her husband during his service and the couple lived in California and Texas. After Robert received his honorable discharge, they moved to Owatonna where Marian worked at Hi Line Hatchery, Brett's Department Store, Protecto Manufacturing and also for the Owatonna Canning Company. Robert died in August of 1971. Later Marian moved to San Antonio to be near her daughter and there she made her home for eight years. She recently returned to Owatonna. Marian was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was an active member. She always remembered birthdays and bought cards or would call family and friends. She also sent cards to friends and family in the hospital or those who were sick at home. She was a very caring and thoughtful lady that always worried about the well being of others and brightened their day. She is survived by a son Gene (and Gloria) Pogalz of Owatonna; Connie Berchelmann of San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Pogalz; a great granddaughter Melani Omangi, a son-in-law Dr. David Berchelmann, four brothers and five sisters. The family would like to thank the staff at Koda Living Community for their kind and thoughtful care. Visitation will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church with The Reverend Kirk Griebel officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna.
