Marie Evelyn Armstrong, age 89, of Owatonna, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025. She was born on June 28, 1936, to the late Fredrick and Evelyn (Schutte) Alexander in Northfield. Marie attended school until she had to leave to care for her sick mother. She would later meet her future husband, Leonard, during one of his leaves returning home to his family. They would later marry on July 3, 1954, in Dundas. While waiting for her husband to return from his service in Europe, Marie stayed with her parents to raise their family.

The family moved to Owatonna in the mid 1970's, making the community their home. Marie found work at a couple of drycleaners until she retired. Her children remember her walking downtown to go shopping and even spend lunchtime meals with Leonard. Marie was famous for her homemade apple pie and wonderful coffee that was limitless as she always had the pot on. In her later years, Marie enjoyed bingo, watching her soap opera "General Hospital", and the occasional cross-stitch.

Marie is survived by her five children: Dennis (Dawn), Kris (Shanie), Dale (Dawn), Leonard Jr., and Susan Armstrong; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild plus another on the way; and nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Diane; and sister, Dorothy (Gordy) Tronstad of California.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Association in Marie's memory.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna. A visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of service. Marie will be laid to rest at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park next to her husband.
