Marie Lavonne Baumgartner, 96, of Kenyon, died Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Kenyon Sunset Home. She was born September 28, 1922 in West Concord, the daughter of Arthur and Tina (Reider) Smith. Marie married Walter Baumgartner on August 26, 1945 in Waltham, Minnesota. The couple farmed near Waltham prior to moving to Austin in the 1950's. The family later moved to rural West Concord where they continued to farm. In 1993, Marie and Walter moved from the farm into town, and in 2009, they moved once more to Kenyon. Marie enjoyed gardening, watching the Twins and Timberwolves on television, playing cards, cooking, fishing, and an occasional trip to the casino. She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Stanley Baumgartner of West Concord; grandchildren, Christine, Brandon (Cheyenne), and Brent Baumgartner; great-grandchildren, Cade Herman, Beau Baumgartner, and Ella Baumgartner; and sister, Myrtle Slaght of South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Baumgartner; sister, Violet Kundert; and brothers, Duard, Howard, and Leslie Smith. Visitation will be held at Hegre Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 10-11am. Funeral services will begin at 11am with Pastor Renita Eidenschink and Intern Pastor Sara Martin officiating. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
