Service Update as of 10/5/2020 A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Marie Luetta Roeker, 99, of Owatonna, will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 24, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna with visitation one hour prior. Facemasks and social distance protocol will be in place in line with the Governor's mandate. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Cemetery or donor's choice. Marie Luetta Roeker, 99, of Owatonna, died Monday, April 20, 2020 at Owatonna Hospital. Marie was born at Peddler's Grove, Freedom Township in Waseca County on May 5, 1920. She grew up on the family farm and attended the Kaiser Country School in Waseca County. As a young woman, she worked for several families in the area. On May 3, 1939, she married Herman G. Roeker. After her marriage, she and her husband lived in Waseca and in 1943 they moved to Owatonna. She was a stay at home mom at first and later worked for the Owatonna Canning Company for 32 years retiring in 1981. She was a very caring person and was always there for her children, especially when they needed help. She enjoyed cleaning and kept a meticulous home. She and Herman spent many winters vacationing in southern Texas. She also enjoyed baking and canning and never forgot her grandkids or great grandkids' birthdays. She was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a 63 year member of the Eagles Auxiliary. She is survived by daughter, Jacqueline (and Lloyd) Kaplan of Owatonna; grandchildren, Dale (and Barb) Roeker of Owatonna, Roxanne (and Jim) Harriman of Owatonna, Ranae Roeker of Owatonna, Debra Roeker of Owatonna, and Gail Kaplan of Dent; great-grandchildren, Brian Roeker, Jeff Harriman, Kendra (and Adam) Troy, Trisha Roeker, Eva Kaplan and Ethan Kaplan and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mildred Amberg; husband, Herman Roeker; and son, Harlan Roeker and grandson, Dean Kaplan. A private burial will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna with a Memorial Mass to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Cemetery or donor's choice.
