Marion P. "Nick" Nikoley, 90, of Owatonna, died Thursday, January 30, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born July 24, 1923 in Comfrey, Minnesota the son of Iver and Margaret (Baier) Wallin. Nick was baptized on March 3, 1924 at Faith Lutheran Church in Comfrey, MN, and was confirmed March 21, 1937 at St. John Lutheran in Owatonna. Nick was later adopted and raised by Paul and Nellie (Rasmussen) Nikoley. Nick attended grade schools in rural Steele County and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1942. He then began farming with his parents until serving in the United States Army from 1944-1946. While serving in the Army he was involved with liberation forces on the Philippine Islands, and was involved with occupational forces in Japan. Marion was united in marriage to Lorraine Fait on November 5, 1946 at St. John Lutheran. Nick worked at the Fait and Scram grocery business, Owatonna Creamery, and was a supervisor at Jostens from 1963-1983. He also worked at St. John Cemetery and for Michaelson Funeral Home. Nick was very involved with St. John Lutheran Church, serving as treasurer and president of the congregation, usher, president of the Crusader's Club, building committee, board of Deacons, and St. John radio services. Nick was also the secretary for St. John Cemetery for many years, and a charter member of the Owatonna Golden K Kiwanis Club, where he was a past president. He was also a life member of the VFW and American Legion, and served on the board of directors of Jostens Employee Club. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling. He is survived by his wife Lorraine Nikoley of Owatonna, sister Mercedes Borseth of Windom, and brother Richard (LaDonna) Robinson of Windom and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his birth parents, adopted parents, two brothers and six sisters. Visitation will be at St. John Lutheran Church on Wednesday February 5, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 5, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church roof fund, St. John Cemetery, or Golden K Kiwanis. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
