Marjorie Olive Zimmerman, 92, of Owatonna, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Benedictine Living Community.

She was born July 18, 1930 in New Ulm, Minnesota to Olevai and Myrtle (Hanson) Lokke, and grew up in Mapleton. In 1947 Marjorie married Everett Lantz, then they later divorced. She graduated from Mankato State University two-year elementary program. Later, she went back to school and received her bachelors and master's degrees, commuting to school on the old Highway 14. Marjorie taught elementary school for 35 years, 3 years in Windom and 32 years teaching in Owatonna.

In 1954 Marjorie moved to Owatonna and married Jim Zimmerman, a former classmate. During their retirement years they enjoyed many overseas trips and Elderhostel's in the states. She belonged to and was an officer in many organizations. Marjorie was a charter member of Sons of Norway Lodge in Owatonna and was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, reading, swimming and being with family, friends, and her beloved cats.

She is survived by her children David Lantz of Manhattan, NY, Jane Zimmerman of Sauk Rapids; grandchildren Heidi (Chris) Keefer of Grass Valley, CA, Hayley Zimmerman of Roseville, CA; great-grandchild, Johnny Keefer.

She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend James Zimmerman; parents Olevai and Myrtle; son, Jeffrey Zimmerman; and brother, Henry Lokke.

Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 8th, 2023 from 9AM to 11AM, with the funeral service starting at 11AM. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Steele County Humane Society.
