Marlene Frances Stiernagle, 86, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at her home.
She was born September 5, 1935 in Owatonna, Minnesota the daughter of Harry and Bernice (Jacobsen) Harlicker. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. Marlene graduated from Owatonna High School in 1953. After high school, she moved to St. Paul where she worked for a florist. On March 19, 1960, she married Harlen "Jim" Stiernagle. The couple made their home in Claremont and attended Peace Lutheran Church. Following Harlen's death in 1985, Marlene continued living in Claremont until 1989 when she moved to Owatonna. Since living in Owatonna, Marlene has attended Good Shepherd Church and was currently a member back at her home church, Trinity Lutheran.
Marlene was a stay-at-home mom, raising her children. She then went to work as a secretary at the Owatonna Hospital, Fairview Veterinary Clinic for 5 years and then back to the Owatonna Hospital from where she retired in 1999.
In her spare time, Marlene enjoyed crocheting, knitting and quilting. She made baby blankets, baptismal gowns and quilts for each grandchild. The quilts were made from T-shirts each grandchild had while growing up. She gave them as graduation gifts. She also made a wall hanging from all the Owatonna FFA ribbons. Marlene also enjoyed family history and genealogy research along with occasional trips to the museum.
She is survived by her children, Sandra Stiernagle of Claremont, Karen (Craig) Johnson of Bloomington, Toni (Jim) Svoboda of Owatonna and Jonathan Stiernagle of Owatonna; daughter-in-law, Theresa Stiernagle of Merrill, WI; brother, Jim (Judy) Harlicker of Owatonna 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Bernice; husband, Harlen "Jim" Stiernagle; son, Roger Stiernagle; granddaughter, Jessica Stiernagle; and siblings, Harriet (Joe) Wilday, Charles (Chris) Harlicker and two infant siblings.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, November 29, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna with visitation one hour prior. The Reverend Todd Buegler will officiate. Interment will be in Owatonna Memorial Gardens.
