Martin A. 'Tardy' Froehlich, 87, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Cedarview Care Center. He was born March 5, 1924 in Ramona, South Dakota, the son of August and Meta (Abraham) Froehlich. Martin moved with his family to the Meriden area in 1931. He attended country school and then began farming. In 1961 Martin purchased a farm with his brother Pete and the two began farming together. Martin was united in marriage to Majory Tollefson on June 28, 1968, and the couple continued farming until retirement in 1989 and then moved to Owatonna. Martin was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Meriden where he was involved in teaching Sunday school, being on the Church Council, singing in the choir, and being a Luther League sponsor. He was the past director of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association of Meriden, and in 1967 he and his brother Pete were Steele County Conservation winners. Martin also was a volunteer at Cedarview Care Center. He is survived by his wife Majory Froehlich of Owatonna, daughter, Barbara Zeman of Owatonna,sons, Rick (and Emily) Tollefson of Owatonna,Rob (and Janice) Tollefson of Springfield, and Tris (and Pat ) Tollefson of Preston. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren Lance (and Tracy) Granquist, Jenni (and Ross Meacham) Granquist Meacham, Jesse and Jill Tollefson, Trent, Kyle(and Sierra Hovey), Katie, and Trace, Tollefson, Briana, Ross, and Riley Bahl, and Joshua and Jenna Zeman, and four great grandchildren Abbie and Logan Granquist, and Blake and Bridon Bahl. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers John, Lyle, and Pete, and one sister Janice Thompson. Visitation will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Meriden on Sunday, February 19, 2012 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with The Reverend Gary Rusinko officiating. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Madison, SD. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Paul''s Lutheran Church, Owatonna Hospice, or Mayo Clinic Childhood Cancer Research. Michaelson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
