Obituary

Marvel Jean Christiansen, 86, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Traditions I, Owatonna. Marvel was born June 3, 1924 in Anoka, Minnesota the daughter of Adolph and Florence (Hall) Eidem. She moved with her family to North Minneapolis and there she was raised and attended Minneapolis North High School. She was united in marriage to Gordon Christiansen on November 28, 1942 in St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Minneapolis. Gordon entered the service and they lived in Chicago, IL, Boca Raton, FL and Kearney, NE. Gordon got called to service and Marvel returned to Minneapolis and lived with her parents. There she worked for Munsingwear during WWII. After Gordon returned from the service they lived in Brooklyn Center and there she worked for Shoppers City and later for Super Value as a cashier. Marvel and Gordon were very, very active in the Clarence LaBelle VFW Post #217. Gordon served as Post Commander and Marvel served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary. The couple made many friends over the years from every walk of life and of different ages. Some friends with ages many years apart. Gordon died in April of 1979. She continued working at Super Value and later retired in 1984. In 1987, Marvel moved to Owatonna and here she volunteered at Trinity Lutheran Church in the office. She also volunteered at Senior Place. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, embroidery work, reading Danielle Steel novels, playing cards and dice games and an occasional trip to the casino. She is survived by two daughters, Marsha Christiansen of Owatonna; Nancy (and Wally) Karsten of Owatonna; a brother, Douglas (and Rosemarie "Duffer") Eidem of Brooklyn Park; two grandchildren, Jennifer (and Todd) Taylor of Apple Valley and their children, Ethan, Brock and Isaak; Jason (and Candice) Ahlman of Pemberton and their children, Karissa, Gavin, Paiton and Wyatt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, her parents, four sisters and three brothers. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, November 11, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 12, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend John Lestock officiating. Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis on Monday, November 15 at 10:00 AM. Memorials are preferred to Senior Place of Owatonna.
