Marvin Ronald Bjoraker, 81, of Owatonna, died Friday, November 23, 2018 at Medford Senior Care.
He was born June 14, 1937 in Dodge County, Minnesota the son of Louis and Bernice (Moe) Bjoraker. He graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1955. He served active duty in the United States Army from February 27, 1956 to November 27, 1957 and then in the reserves until January 31, 1962. He was an artillery gun mechanic and later a company clerk in Fort Hamilton, New York while in the service.
Following his active military service, he farmed for one year and attended the University of Minnesota for a short time. He then worked for his uncle, Frank Pechacek at the Iowa Golden Dairy in Waterloo and worked his way up to plant manager. He went to Southern California on vacation in 1965, and two weeks later, he moved there. In 1966, he started working as a road laborer for Los Angeles County, was promoted to heavy truck driver in 1967, then road leadman and in 1968 he was promoted again to concrete and stone worker. After that, he supervised 12 -15 inmates from the Detention Camp Program and trained them to work on the road crew. He retired in 1994 and later moved back to Owatonna.
He is survived by brothers, Wayne (and Mary) Bjoraker of Owatonna, Roger (Fran) Bjoraker of Rapid City, SD; sisters, Linda (and Tuz) Nereson of Rochester, Kathryn (and Daniel) Barnes of Los Angeles, CA, and Janice Phelps of Los Angeles, CA, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Bernice; brothers, Lyle (infant) and Larry Bjoraker; sister, Arlene Olson; brothers-in-law, Dennis Phelps and Bill Olson and nephew, Daniel Barnes, III.
A Memorial Service will be held at Aurora Lutheran Church at 11:00am on Thursday, November 29, 2018 with visitation one hour prior. The Reverend Stephanie Wood will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Aurora Lutheran Church.
