Marvin L. Hartwig, 83, of Owatonna, died Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Golden Living Facility, Wabasso, Minnesota. Marvin was born June 23, 1927 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Ervin and Minnie (Sass) Hartwig. Here he was raised and attended school graduating from Owatonna High School in 1945. He entered the United States Navy in May 1945 and served at the end of WWII. He received his honorable discharge in August 1946 and returned to Owatonna. Marvin was united in marriage to Betty Page on September 14, 1946 in Owatonna. He worked at the Registrar of Deeds and then worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Owatonna. Marvin loved the outdoors, fishing and anything that had to do with athletics. Marvin was inducted into the Owatonna High School Hall of Fame in 2004 where he participated in football, basketball and track. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson play professional football in the NFL. He is survived by his wife Betty Hartwig of Owatonna; a son, Craig Hartwig of Lake Wylie, SC; two daughters, Mary Driver of Faribault; Sue Hartwig of Rochester; a brother, Dale Hartwig; a grandson, Justin Hartwig (Nicole Bistolas) of Pittsburgh, PA; and a great granddaughter, Ellie Hartwig of Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Pastor Loren Olson officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna.
