IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marvin Albert
Meixner
October 17, 1930 – November 26, 2023
Marvin A. Meixner, age 93, of Owatonna died on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Timberdale Trace.
Marvin Albert Meixner was born the son of Albert and Agnes (Wavrin) Meixner, on October 17, 1930, in Saco. He attended grade school at the same country school as his father and his two daughters attended. He then attended Owatonna High School, graduating in 1948. At an early age he began farming. Marvin started his hog enterprise in 1946 through the FFA program at Owatonna High School in 10th grade. He volunteered his time and helped put cement floors in the hog pens in the old hog barn at the fairgrounds in the late 1940s. Starting in 1946, he sold purebred swine breeding stock for 4-H and FFA members and continued to do so for many years. Marvin was a member of the 1951 state champion 4-H judging team from Steele County and was high individual in the contest. He was awarded the FFA American Degree that year. He was a founding member of the Steele County Pork Producers Association, a 13-year 4-H leader, president of the 4-H leader's council in 1953 and was recipient of the 4-H Typical Leader Award in 1973. He readily opened his farm to 4-H and FFA youth to learn livestock management, judging and genetics. He was an exhibitor of Spotted Poland China and Hampshire hogs and Ayrshire cattle at the Steele County Free Fair. He was a seed stock producer of Spotted Poland China and Hampshire hogs for 25 years. Marvin was a proud dairy farmer and was a member of the Steele County ADA for many years. On September 9, 1956 he was united in marriage to Beverly Eggers at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. They Made their home on the same farm where Marvin was born. Marvin often mentioned that he couldn't have had the success he did farming without the partnership with his wife of 67 years, Beverly. From the barn to the milk house to the biggest tractors, Beverly was as hands-on as a farm wife can get. Family was always very important to Marvin and even though he was assisting so many others, he always had time for his children, Mark, Mavis and Marcia. Anyone who knew Marvin will remember his remarkable memory, and love of American History. He was very proud of his Czech Heritage. Marvin served on the board of directors of the National Bohemian Cemetery for over 20 years, resigning his position just before his 93rd birthday. He also enjoyed wintering in Arizona with his wife for 25 years where they formed a new family of friends. Marvin was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Hope, MN for 65 years.
He is survived by his wife Beverly Meixner of Owatonna; children Marcia (Jim) Kraus of Oro Valley, AZ, Mavis (Dale) Schmidt of Green Isle, MN, Mark (Claudia) Meixner of Ladera Ranch, CA, grandchildren Derek (Kristina) Strohschein, Josh Schmidt, Dan Goldman, Aidan Meixner, Tristan Meixner, 5 step-grandchildren; great grandchildren Griffin and Charlie Goldman, and 11 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Agnes Meixner and in-laws Clarence and Alice Eggers, granddaughter Crystal Strohschein Goldman, sister Donna (Carol) Arends and brother Robert (Sharon) Meixner.
