Mary Kathryn Malakowsky, 72, of Owatonna, joined the heavenly angels on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Owatonna Hospital. For the last five months she courageously battled an aggressive form of cancer. She was born December 29, 1945 in Duluth, Minnesota the daughter of Walter and Bernice (Boeder) Kuehn. She grew up in Duluth and graduated from Duluth East High School, Class of 1964. She continued her education at beauty school in Duluth. On July 22, 1967, she married James Malakowsky in Duluth. The couple lived in Duluth, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and settled in Owatonna in 1969. Mary was a hard- working individual holding various jobs in the community including: nursing, telephone operator and was a school bus driver for 13 years. At one time, Mary held three licenses including licenses as a school bus driver, beautician, and a nurse. She was an avid reader, and had a passionate love and appreciation for culture, humanities, and the arts. Mary enjoyed museums, unique food, antiques, traveling trips to the casino, Duluth, Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Mackinac Island in Michigan. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, supporter of the Owatonna Arts Center, and a past president of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She is survived by her husband, James Malakowsky of Owatonna; children, Julie (and Bruce) Domino of Nisswa and Dr. Daniel (and Kristin) Malakowsky of Grand Rapids, MI; grandchildren, Austin and Briston Domino, Christopher, James, Theodore and William Malakowsky; brother, Walter (and Sally) Kuehn of Minneapolis and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Bernice. A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7pm Thursday, December 27th at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna and at church one hour prior to the service. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am Friday, December 28, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna with Reverend Amanda Weinkauf officiating. All are welcome to attend. Inurnment will be at a later date. Mary will be deeply missed as she touched many lives. May Mary's spirit continue to shine through the lives she touched while she was with us.
