Obituary

Mary Louise Polesky, 93, of Rose Creek, Minnesota died Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Temecula Valley Hospital in Temecula, CA. Mary was born July 5, 1924 in Waverly, Iowa to Charles and Mabel (Reasoner) Barber, and was the first of five children. Mary grew up and attended school in Waverly, IA graduating from Waverly High School in May 1942. Upon graduation, Mary attended Wartburg College where she met her future husband, Bernhardt Polesky. Mary went on to work at the Waverly State Bank for several years. She was united in marriage to Reverend Bernhardt E. Polesky in May 1945 in Waverly, IA. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Mary loved traveling, whether it was a trip to the lake to fish or to California in a semi-tractor trailer. An avid green thumb, Mary appreciated tending her plants and garden, especially roses. Above all else, Mary loved spending time with her family, always having Special K bars, Yum-Yum, and pop on-hand when the grandkids and great grandkids came by. Always one with a quick wit, Grandma P had a joke or come back to share, as well. Mary was 100% a ministers wife, serving alongside her husband, Reverend Polesky, for 40 years. Parishes included: Cleveland, German Lake, Meriden, and Zion in Minnesota, and Hesper, Burr Oak, and Maple Leaf in Iowa. Mary was whatever the current parish needed her to be, whether that was an organist, pianist, or even a cook. Since her beloved husband's passing, Mary had been a snowbird for over 20 years, enjoying the California sunshine with her daughter and son-in-law, Robert and Rebecca Hanson, during the winter months and returning to Minnesota when the snow left. For the last two years, she was a full-time resident in California, blessed to be with her special full time caregiver and daughter, Rebecca. She is survived by her five children; Richard (Shari) Polesky, Paula (Paul) Hanson, Marcia (Stanley) Fawcett, Rebecca (Robert) Hanson, and Jay (Lori) Polesky; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren. Surviving family also includes: sisters, Marjorie Meeker of Central City, IA and Evelyn Miller of Bull Shoals, AR; sister-in-law, Maxine Barber of Waverly, IA; and many extended family. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mabel; her husband, Rev. B.E. Polesky; grandson, Sander I. Fawcett; sister, Margaret (Barber) Rechkemmer; and brother, Hubert Barber. Also preceding Mary in death are brothers-in-law, Gerald Rechkemmer, Bud Miller, and Bill Meeker.
