Obituary

Mary Jane (Aase) Vangsness, 62, of Kenyon, died Sept. 3, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Mary was born Dec. 30, 1952 in Faribault, to David and Jane (Hildebrandt) Aase. After graduating from Kenyon High School in 1971, Mary attended Mankato State. After college, she worked at Federated Insurance in Owatonna. On April 15, 1978, Mary united in marriage to the love of her life, Craig Vangsness. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage and were blessed with two children. For 35 years, Mary was a field representative for the Goodhue County Dairy Herd Improvement Association. For more than 20 years, Mary was also the head cook at Kenyon-Wanamingo Elementary School. Throughout her life, Mary enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, canning, vegetable gardening and enjoying quality time with her grandson Ryan, with whom she shared a special bond. Mary is survived by her husband, Craig; children, Katie (Mike) Block, of Savage, and Troy (Anna) Vangsness, of New Ulm; one grandson, Ryan Block; siblings, Dan (Carol) Aase, of Rosemount, Charles (Laura) Aase, of Prior Lake, Deb Aase, of Kenyon, Julie (Jon) Broin, of Kenyon, Robert Aase, of Kenyon, and Kris (Ron) Mills, of Elko; brothers-in-law, Arden (Trudy) Vangsness, of Kenyon, Eldon Vangsness, of Kenyon, and sister-in-law Marlis (Jon) Stehr, of Zumbrota; step-mother-in-law Pat Vangsness, of Faribault; aunts, Ruth Jacobson, of Faribault, and Alice Helgeson, of Kenyon; uncle Philip (Audrey) Ause, of West Hills, Calif.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Jane; parents-in-law Leverne and LaVerne Vangsness; and brother-in-law Brian Vangsness. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Domatilla 3 at St. Mary's Hospital for their loving and compassionate care. Mary will be greatly missed by all of those who were blessed to know her. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Sunday, September 6, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 7, 2015 at 11:00 am at Holden Lutheran Church, Kenyon with The Reverend Heather Culuris officiating. Interment will be in the Holden Cemetery.
