Obituary

Mary Ann Welker, 82, of Owatonna, died Monday, March 12, 2018 at Homestead Hospice House. Mary Ann was born January 10th, 1936 in Mankato, the daughter of Roger and Evelyn (Perrizo) Ziegler. She grew up near Easton and graduated from Good Counsel Academy in Mankato in 1954. She was united in marriage to John Welker on September 22nd, 1962 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. They made their home in Owatonna, moved to Lake Mills, Iowa for almost 20 years, and returned to Owatonna in 1986. Mary Ann was a homemaker when the children were young, then worked as Office Manager at the Lake Mills Nursing Home. Mary Ann enjoyed numerous crafts, collecting buttons, staining and varnishing wood working projects, square dancing, camping, and vacationing. She followed the Minnesota Twins; at other sporting events she �˜watched the fashions.' She loved collecting recipe books and spending time in her kitchen; baking Christmas cookies, wedding cakes, and preparing food for catering. John and Mary Ann wintered in Mesa, AZ for 17 years where she enjoyed swimming, quilting and playing cards including Bridge, 500, and Pinochle. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary Ann was a member of the Sunland Village Quilters, Lady Elks, and Owatonna Women's Club. She was also a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband, John Welker of Owatonna; daughter, Brenda (Mike) Klampe of Ellendale; son, Kurt (Judy) Welker of Owatonna; grandchildren, Michael (Devann) Klampe of New Richland, Corey (Carolyn) Klampe of Mantorville, Morgan Welker and Leah Welker both of Owatonna; great grandchildren, Dalton, Peyton and Bevin Klampe; brother, Paul (Marion) Ziegler of Winnebago; sister in law, Gerry Ziegler of Easton as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Ziegler. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 4pm to 7pm and at St. John Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10am to 11am. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11am at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church, Homestead Hospice House or to the donor's choice.
