Obituary

Mataleen Mattie Ruth Eastman, 81, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at her home at The Brooks. She was born February 10, 1937 in Claremont, Minnesota the daughter of Matthew and Myrtle (Ohrmann) Von Ruden. She graduated from Claremont High School in 1955. She continued her education and graduated with a degree as an X-Ray Technician. While working at the orphanage in Owatonna, she met Gordon Eastman and they were married on August 4, 1962 at Peace Lutheran Church in Claremont. The couple made their home in Owatonna where they raised their two children, Roxanne and Robert. Mattie worked for 25 years at Modern Metals in Owatonna as a sheet metal worker. She was a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was very patriotic and civic oriented. She served in a number of officer positions in the VFW Auxiliary, was a member of the American Legion, Eagles, Red Hatters and the Humane Society. She also volunteered with veteran shut-ins. Mattie was a huge Minnesota sports fan following the Vikings, Twins and Gophers. She loved her lake life at Cedar Lake in Faribault, fishing and playing cards with her friends. She dearly loved her granddaughters and spending time with them. She is survived by her children, Roxanne Eastman of Owatonna and Robert (and Susan) Eastman of Orono; granddaughters, Maddie and Emma Eastman of Orono and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon Gordy Eastman and sisters, Bernice Behne and Elaine Clark. Mattie's family is thankful and grateful to the staff at Ecumen Brooks and St. Croix Hospice for the love and compassionate care given to Mattie. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Friday, July 6th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at church on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Owatonna with Reverend Kirk Griebel officiating.
