Mavis G. Barth 71 of Eugene, OR formerly of Owatonna died August 18 in Eugene. She was born March 4, 1937 in Owatonna to Melvin and Gunda (Nelson) Hovland. She lived with her parents and sister on a farm Southeast of Owatonna and graduated from OHS in 1955. She worked at the University of Minnesota as a senior clerk typist before and after her marriage. Mavis married Ronald Barth June 30, 1957 at Aurora Lutheran Church. After their marriage they lived in Montana, Iowa, New Mexico, and Oregon. She was actively involved with her husband, a Lutheran pastor, in serving congregations. Mavis is survived by her husband, daughter Kimberly (Dan) Stiff of Baltimore, MD, son Todd (Kristi) of Portland, OR, and seven grandchildren Matthew and Adam Stiff, and Danielle, Joshua, Jeremiah, Tabitha and Tair Barth. Her parents and one sister preceded her in death. Funeral service will be Sunday August 31, 2008 at noon at Aurora Lutheran Church with the Reverend Paul Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 until time of service at the church. Burial will be in the Aurora Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Bethesda Lutheran Church memorial fund, 4445 Royal Ave. Eugene, Oregon 97402. Memorial gifts will be distributed to Nomad Charities, which operates a children''s orphanage in Kenya that cares for children whose parents have died of HIV/Aids.
