Mavis A. Madson, 90, of Owatonna, formerly of Austin, died Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Owatonna Hospital. She was born March 28, 1928 in Austin, Minnesota the daughter of Palmer and Anna (Weber) Johnson. She grew up on a farm southeast of Austin. She married Edward Uhlis and they had a daughter Patricia and later divorced. She then married Duane Madson who was the love of her life. They adopted Patricia's twin daughters, Marcia and Lisa and raised them as their children. Outside of the home, Mavis worked at Fox Candy & Catalog Company for over 40 years and then at McDonalds for 15 years before retiring. Mavis enjoyed collecting bells, playing golf with friends, traveling to California and Arizona, reading, trips to the casino and hosting family reunions. At holiday gatherings, she would eventually burst out speaking Norwegian that no body could understand and the holiday celebration would begin. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (and Robert) Schmidt of Owatonna and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane; daughters, Marcia and Patricia and her brothers and sisters. Visitation will be at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin on Friday, November 30th from 10-11am . Funeral services will be held Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11am at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Reverend Mark Niethammer officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
