Mavis C. Oeltjenbruns, 82, of Owatonna, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Traditions II. Mavis was born December 16, 1927 in Kenyon, Minnesota the daughter of Carl and Mabel (Heltne) Remold. There she was raised and attended school graduating from Kenyon High School in 1945. She moved to Owatonna and worked for Jostens and Federated Insurance. She was united in marriage Lawrence Oeltjenbruns on May 6, 1948 in Gol Lutheran Church, Kenyon. They made their home in Owatonna. Mavis then began a daycare and later worked for the Owatonna Public School in food service. She then worked for Truth Hardware and for Service Master cleaning service. Mavis was special in many ways. She loved children and volunteered to read for elementary classes at Lincoln Elementary school. She was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school. Mavis also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making newborn outfits for the Owatonna Hospital. She delivered Meals on Wheels. Baking fresh bread, buns, chocolate chip cookies, lefse, krumkake, rosettes and peanut blossoms were some of her specialties. She enjoyed canning pickles and relish and made homemade blue cheese and french dressing. Mavis was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and even traveled to visit family in Norway. She volunteered to drive people to Dr appointments and for others that needed rides to visit those in hospitals and nursing homes, but most importantly she cared for her husband, Lawrence who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. After many years, Lawrence began needing around the clock care and their Dr suggested a nursing facility, but even then, Mavis wanted to continue caring for him. She is survived by two daughters, Julie (and John) Eidsvoog of Beverly Hills; Susan Haase of Eden Prairie; three sons, Bruce (and Caroline) Oeltjenbruns of Owatonna; Scott (and Lori) Oeltjenbruns of Johnston, IA; Todd Oeltjenbruns of Owatonna; three sisters including her twin sister, Marilyn Dahl of Owatonna; Alice (and Howard) Riese of Rochester; Delphine Burt of Rochester; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence (1994) and her parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, April 5, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to the Homestead Hospice, Traditions II or donor''s choice.
