Obituary

Mavis F. Wiese, 84, of Owatonna, died Friday, June 8, 2012 at Homestead Hospice House. She was born December 31, 1927 in Ocheyedan, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Pearl (White) Small. Mavis spent her childhood on the family farm near Ocheyedan, IA where she went to school through the eighth grade and then attended high school in Excelsior, Hartley, and Ocheyedan. She married Earl Wiese on October 16, 1953 in Sioux Falls, SD and together they had three children Myron, Steven and Deborah. The couple farmed in Iowa until 1958 when they moved to Owatonna to make their home. Mavis was a member of the United Methodist Church, where she held many offices at the church and with the United Methodist Women. She was a member of senior place where she led the quilting group until her sight wouldn't let her do it anymore. She was a cook for many years and loved gardening, collecting dolls, and sewing quilts. While living at Countryside Assisted Living she enjoyed playing cards and bingo with her many friends. She is survived by three children Myron (and Colleen) Thompson of Mankato, Steven (and Cynthia) Wiese of Byron, and Deborah (and Tom) Dailey of Owatonna, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl Wiese in 1975, two brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday June 12, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 12, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Reverend Loren Olson officiating. Interment will be in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan, IA. Memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, or the American Diabetes Association.
