Maxine Wilma Larson, 88, of Owatonna, died Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.
She was born March 2, 1931 in Owatonna, Minnesota the daughter of Otto and Lorinda (Willert) Drache. She attended District 11 school and graduated from Owatonna High School, class of 1949. She went to Gustavus College and transferred to Bethesda Lutheran School of Nursing in St. Paul, graduating with honors in September 1952 as a Registered Nurse.
On July 5, 1952, she was united in marriage to Donald B. Larson of Waseca at St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna.
Maxine practiced her nursing degree in various ways until health issues forced her to retire. She then turned to her expertise in sewing and knitting. She won many blue ribbons at the Steele County Free Fair winning "Best of the Fair" in 1963.
Maxine was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church. She was active in WELCA, various circles, was a member of Crusaders Club, helped with the Steele County Fair parking lot, and taught vacation Bible school, and enjoyed the card making ministry. Before and after her husband's retirement, they enjoyed many bus and barge trips. They also enjoyed all the winters they spent in Mesa, Arizona as snowbirds. Don and Maxine spent the rest of their time together on Crestview Lane and Park Place in Owatonna and Prairie Meadows in Kasson.
Although Maxine was legally blind, she continued to supply sweaters for "Knit for Kids" an organization that supplies sweaters to children of cold climates.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Larson of Owatonna; son, Greg Larson of Owatonna; daughter, Joy Kwedor of Casper, Wyoming; grandchildren, Melissa (and Lee) Nix of Germany and Reese Wegener (YaYa Wantoe) of Des Moines; four great-grandchildren; sister, Lois (and Leonard) Marquardt of Dodge Center; sister-in-law, Pat Wuger of Owatonna and nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Walter Wuger.
Visitation will be at St. John Lutheran Church, 1301 Lincoln Ave. S., Owatonna on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM . Funeral services will be held February 29, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be at the North Waseca Lutheran Cemetery, rural Waseca.
Memorials preferred to St. John Lutheran Church, Fairview Care Center or St. Croix Hospice.
