Maxine Norma Manke, 89, of Owatonna passed away peacefully Friday, May 20, 2011 at Cedarview Care Center. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, was born August 25, 1921 in Owatonna, the only child of Henry and Anna (Wilde) Hartwig. Maxine grew up in downtown Owatonna where her home was located at the now Expert Tire site on Oak St. Her parents later moved their house to 134 W. Rice and Maxine's Dad, who was an Owatonna businessman, built his Buick car dealership where their home was. Maxine and her future husband, Warren Manke, both graduated from Owatonna High School in 1939. After high school Maxine graduated from Beauty College and operated her own beauty shop on Park Square downtown Owatonna. Maxine was united in marriage to Warren Manke on March 26, 1944 at Trinity Lutheran Church; however both were life-long members of St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna. Warren and Max recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary with their family at a party at Cedarview. Their first married years were spent on the Manke farm in Deerfield Township and in 1951 they bought their first home in Owatonna. Maxine enjoyed entertaining, decorating her home, and cooking for her family at 552 E University. She also enjoyed flowers and flower gardening, dancing with Warren to Lawrence Welk at the Monterey Ballroom and in their later years she and Warren spent winters in Arizona with their friends. Warren and Maxine had two daughters, Kandus "Kandy" and Krissa. Maxine is survived by her beloved husband Warren of Owatonna; her daughters, Kandus 'Kandy' (and Steve) Wilson of Owatonna; Krissa (and Mike) Whipps of Burnsville; her grandchildren, Shane Anderson, Casey Anderson, Alyssa (and Scott) Hurlock, Amber Whipps, Sean Whipps; her great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Anderson, Katherine Anderson, Kevin Anderson and Alyssa''s triplets, Lilly, Montanna and Haven; her great-great-grandchildren, Isabella and Arianna Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her aunt, Minnie (Wilde) Rusche. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna next to her beloved parents.
