Mayme L. Quam, 94, of Kenyon, died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Fairview Care Center, Dodge Center. Mayme was born July 7, 1916 in Cherry Grove Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota the daughter of Joseph and Paula (Bjorngaard) Hjortaas. There she was raised and attended District 116 country school. She was united in marriage to David Quam on October 10, 1936 in Lands Lutheran Church, Zumbrota. Mayme helped farm with David and while he was on the road, Mayme took care of the chores feeding the animals and milking cows. In 1961, David and Mayme built Quammingo Roller Skating Rink in Wanamingo. David died in 1974 and shortly after, Mayme sold the roller skating rink. She moved to Kenyon and later to Dodge Center. Mayme enjoyed reading the newspaper and keeping up the news and weather and rarely missed going downtown in Kenyon for lunch. She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Jacobson of Kenyon; and a son, LeRoy (and Margaret) Quam of Rochester. Mayme was preceded in death by her husband David, a son-in-law, Olaf Jacobson, a brother, Juel Hjortaas and a sister, Luella Berg. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held at Lands Lutheran Church, Zumbrota on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Paul Reppe officiating. Interment will be in the Lands Lutheran Cemetery in Zumbrota.
