Obituary

Maynard R. Lueth died peacefully at Homestead Hospice House on Wednesday August 12 after a long battle with MSA (Multiple System Atrophy). Born May 31, 1930 to Mabel and Edwin Lueth in Northrop, MN, he is survived by his wife, Beverly; mother, Mabel; brother, Arlynn Lueth (Karen); son, Randy (Jill Meilahn); daughter Cynthia (Allan) Hammel; grandchildren, Andrea (Jon) Wollak, Nathan Lueth, Christopher Lueth, Joseph Hammel; brother-in-law, Bryce Wahl; sister-in-law, Lois Lenz; nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his father. Maynard graduated from Fairmont, MN class of 1948. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College and South Dakota State University where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. On August 19, 1951, he married Beverly Lenz in Fairmont, MN. Following college, he was employed as a tool design engineer for the Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle, Washington. In 1954 he and Beverly moved to Fairmont where he was the Assistant City Engineer. In 1958 Maynard became a registered professional Civil Engineer. The city of Worthington, MN hired him as City Engineer in 1959, and in 1968 he became the City Engineer of Owatonna. He was very involved in the development of West Hills and supervised the move of city offices to that complex. In 1985 he retired as City Engineer and was employed by RCM, a consulting engineering firm located in Minneapolis. His second retirement was in 1992. Maynard was an accomplished horseman who loved to show American Saddlebreds. He is a past president of the MN Palomino Assoc. In 2007 the Tri-State Horsemen''s Association presented him with the Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a founding member and the first chairman of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and remained an active church member until this past winter. Previously, he was the Building Chairman for the educational wing, head usher, and served on the Board of Lay Ministry and Board of Church properties. He also served on the Evangelism, Stewardship and Campus Ministry Boards for the MN South Dist., Missouri Synod. Maynard was a member of the City Engineers Assoc., Amer. Public Works Assoc., MN Soc. of Professional Engineers and Rotary International. Funeral service will be 11 AM Monday August 17, 2009 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2500 7th Ave. NE, Owatonna with Rev Mark Rosenau officiating. Visitation will be Sunday August 16, 2009 from 3-6 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Memorial Courtyard or Owatonna Hospice Patients Care.
