Melba Lucille McKinstry, 87, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Melba was born June 5, 1929 in McDonald County, Missouri, the daughter of Phil and Betsy (Hanson) Henson. She graduated high school in Missouri and moved to Arkansas where she met her future husband, Otto Mac McKinstry, while attending John Brown University. Melba was united in marriage to Mac on July 30, 1949 in Arkansas. In 1953, the couple moved to Minneapolis where Melba worked as a secretary at First Baptist Church, Brooklyn Center. In 1964, they moved to Owatonna where she worked for the Owatonna School District and later Josten's until her retirement.
Melba was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She enjoyed camping and traveling with her family. Melba also enjoyed dressing her home up for the holidays.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Owatonna and Bell Choir, Eastern Star which she held several positions, and served as Cub Scout Den Leader in the cities.
She is survived by her son, Robert (and Gloria) McKinstry of Rosemount, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; 11 grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Otto McKinstry; son, Bill McKinstry; four brothers; and a sister.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Church, Owatonna on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 10:30 AM at First Baptist Church with The Reverend Cindy Halvorson officiating. Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
