Obituary

Melford Andrew Fretham, 89, of Medford, passed away peacefully Friday, December 27, 2019 at Koda Living Community in Owatonna. He was born January 7, 1930, in Iosco Township, Waseca County, Minnesota the son of Andrew and Gena (Loken) Fretham. He grew up on a farm and graduated from Waseca High School, Class of 1947. On February 17, 1951, he married Dorothy Lind. The couple rented farms near Morristown and Waseca and later purchased a farm near West Concord and then a farm west of Owatonna along Highway 14. Along with farming, Melford was a truck driver, a school bus driver and a repairman, earning the label "Mr. Fix It". Melford and Dorothy enjoyed wintering in Arizona for 21 years, living in Missouri for 9 years and returned to Minnesota in 2007. He was a faithful and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Medford. Melford was proud of his Norwegian heritage. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards, golf and especially his grandchildren. He even sewed quilts for his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Fretham of Medford; children, Thomas (Barb Stowell) Fretham of Rosemount, Susan (Rick) Gasner of Medford, Sandra (Pete Michaletz) Finley of Owatonna and Debra (Rick) Sisco of Chadwick, MO; grandchildren, Andy Fretham, Jennie (Jeff) Johnson, Ashley (Nick) Yoder, Adam (Katie) Stowell, Noelle Harding, Ben (Emily Kniskern) Gasner, Matt (Jill) Gasner, Melinda Gasner, Kelly Jo (Joe) Schwab, Tim (Jamie) Finley, Jon Fisher, Angie Fisher, Guy Weagley, Nikki (Shane Berry) Sisco, Tamara (Brian) Loula and Kayla (Kevin) Niswander; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ludwig (Chris) Fretham, Ellsworth (Jayn) Fretham, Clarice (Richard) Krause, Helen Nolte, Orivlle (Gwen) Fretham and sister-in-law, Mary Fretham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew & Gena; granddaughter-in-law, Kristy Fretham; sister, Ilene Fretham; brother and sister-in-law, Gordon (Jean) Fretham; and brother-in-law, Dean Nolte. Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, Medford on Tuesday from 9:30 - 11:30 AM. Funeral services will be held December 31, 2019 at 11:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Medford with The Reverend Mark Biebighauser officiating. Interment will be in the North Waseca Lutheran Church Cemetery rural Waseca.
