Melvin A. Oyloe, 89, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Cedarview Care Center after an 8 year battle with Alzheimers. He was born December 12, 1920 in Springfield Township, Decorah, Iowa the son of Ole and Ingeborg (Sondrol) Oyloe, proud immigrants of Norway. He entered into the United States Army Air Corp in 1942 and served in the European Theatre as a heavy equipment operator, earning the rank of Corporal, until his honorable discharge in 1945. After the service, he farmed near Canton, MN for a period of time. Melvin married Norma Gossman at St. Agnes Church in Cresco, IA. They built a home and operated a business in Canton, MN. In 1967, they moved to Owatonna where Melvin worked as a supervisor in the paint department at Owatonna Tool Company until his retirement in 1985. During which time he also worked at the municipal golf course. After his retirement, he worked at Wal-Mart as a greeter for twenty years until 2004 when his health declined. Melvin was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He dedicated his time to family, friends and work. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Norma Oyloe of Owatonna; children, Jann Oyloe of Hartland, Kevin (and Wende) Oyloe of Owatonna, Christine Oyloe (and partner Laura James) of Burnsville; grandchildren, Andrea and Marcus Oyloe of Owatonna; brother, Carl (and Gilma) Oyloe of Decorah, IA; sisters-in-law, Laurice Fulsaas and Lois Henry both of Decorah, IA and Wanda Gossman of Scotts Bluff, NE; many nieces and nephews and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ida Ingram, brother, Orvel Oyloe, brothers-in-law, Don Gossman and Merle Fulsaas. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church. A prayer service will be held 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday November 13, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father John Sauer and Father C.J. Haberman officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna with military honors by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. A reception will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church immediately following the interment. Family requests memorials be directed to the family
