Melvin W. Pitan, 90, of Medford, died Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Melvin was born November 14, 1918 in Medford the son of William and Emma (Radel) Pitan. Melvin was raised on the family farm and lived his entire life on it. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Golnick on August 25, 1946 in Clinton Falls. Besides his love for his family, Melvin had a love and passion for farming and farmed his entire life. During the winter months in the later years, they enjoyed traveling to Arizona. Dorothy died on August 25, 2009. He is survived by a daughter, Linda (and Gary) Kingery of Reading; a son, Delbert (and Janda) Pitan of Owatonna; a daughter-in-law, Rossana Corey-Vick of Medford; brother, Maynard (and Ida) Pitan of Faribault; two sisters, Vi Schuster of Owatonna; Elayne Blazick of St Paul; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Pitan; Bradley Pitan; Dustin Pitan; Andrew Pitan; Breezy Pitan; Sabrina (and Brad) Sowles; Heath Kingery and Shelby Kingery; one great granddaughter, Izabella Pitan. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents, his son Rodney Pitan; and three sisters. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, October 12 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 13 at 11:00 AM at The Associated Church with Dr. Ronald D. Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
